LOS ANGELES (November 28th, 2018) -- Today the Los Angeles Gladiators announce the acquisition of Riku “Ripa” Toivanen. Hailing from Hyvinkää, Finland, Ripa joins fellow Finns Benjamin “BigGoose” Isohanni and Jonas “Shaz” Suovaara on the Gladiators support line.
In Overwatch Contenders Europe, Ripa established his Zenyatta and Moira play on Team Gigantti. The team finished 2nd in Season 1 and placed 3rd-4th in Season 2.
“Ripa will provide us with more depth at the support position, which previously only had Shaz and BigGoose. His time on Gigantti in EU Contenders showed that he was really mechanically gifted and that he can really shine at the top-level of play,” says head coach David “dpei” Pei.
“I am excited to be playing with Ripa. It will be good to have another support and another Finnish teammate,” adds BigGoose, Gladiators main support.
The Gladiators ended Season 1 strong, finishing 4th overall in the inaugural season of the Overwatch League. Since then they have made new acquisitions, signing main tank Chang-hoon “rOar” Gye and DPS Gui-un “Decay” Jang to the roster.
