LOS ANGELES (December 13th, 2018) -- The final piece of the Los Angeles Gladiators falls into place with the expansion of the coaching staff.
Under the guidance of coaches David “dpei” Pei and Timothy “Tim” Albanese, the LA Gladiators finished 4th overall in the regular season of the inaugural season of the Overwatch League. Dpei and Tim will reprise their roles as the head and assistant coach, respectively. They are joined by Seetoh “JohnGalt” Jian Qing as another assistant coach, Carl "PCC" Daubert as the performance coach, and Shang-Yeon “ShibaInu” Han as the KR/EN translator.
Hailing from Singapore, JohnGalt is the first Singaporean to join the Overwatch League and the second person representing the Southeast Asia region after Dallas Fuel’s Pongphop “Mickie” Rattanasangchod, who is from Thailand. He grew up fascinated with the mechanics and intricate strategies behind gameplay. This interest combined with a stint as a sergeant in the Singaporean military service helped develop his leadership and coaching skills. JohnGalt served as a coach for Chaos Theory and Incipience from the Pacific Region and Dark Sided from the OCE region prior to joining the Gladiators.
As the new performance coach, PCC’s job involves optimizing the schedule and facilitating the best practice environment for the team. He worked as a mental performance coach for multiple teams and organizations, ranging from middle school to professional levels. Most notably, PCC worked with the Immortals Overwatch team as a Mental Performance Coach during their Contenders Season 0 championship run and runner up finish at the BEAT Invitational. He will bring his experiences and learning to help the Los Angeles Gladiators become and stay the most mentally fit team in OWL.
Shang-Yeon “ShibaInu” Han will facilitate the Korean and Western sides of the team as the KR/EN Translator. He played Overwatch in the Tespa Collegiate Series during his time in college at the University of Connecticut. He also served as the esports coordinator for the UConn Gaming Club.
“We’re confident in everyone’s ability to form a strong coaching staff and look forward to seeing what this core group can accomplish,” says Charlie Lipsie, Director of Esports.
